Flippin it

Have I mentioned my husband is really busy? That he is in full time Seminary? And works a full time job? Well, he does. So this means I find ways to keep busy. I have discovered hobbies. One of those hobbies, I have turned into a little business...and let's be honest, that little business has been blowing up your FB Newsfeed and Instagram. Sorry 'bout that. I'm just trying to get it "out" there, know what I mean? Anyways, the other hobby is flipping furniture. I absolutely love doing this. It's so fun to take something that someone else may not want or looks old fashion and turn it into something pretty. Who knows, I may turn this into a business! ;)

First up, our 4th generation kitchen table. It's old. It had the indention's of Nana's (E's gma) teethmarks from when she was a child. It was a drab brown and naturally distressed.

I wish I would have taken a before picture. I still have one chair left to paint, so maybe I'll take a before pic of that and post it. The color is a very subtle blue. So subtle, it can look white, especially in pictures.

The lighting is a little different in the picture

Sorry Nana for covering up your teeth marks :)

Next up, Addie's changing table. I have blogged this before, but what the heck, it goes with the theme of the post. This beaut was a $30 Craigslist find. I was THRILLED that I crossed paths with this treasure. This is exactly what I wanted. Something that looked antique, with a lot of detail and curves. I especially didn't want the modern changing table, ya know, the one with straight edges and two shelves. It's just not me nor what I had pictured in my head.

Before

After
This piece is also distressed, hard to tell in pictures

Lastly, meet Eric's childhood brown and gold chest. This was a gem hidden beneath ugly colors, which now serves as our coffee table. It's one of my favorite things in our living room! Again, wish I would have taken a before picture!

Flippin furniture is something that I really enjoy. Instead of throwing out or selling old furniture, try some paint!

What are your favorite hobbies?

Addie Girl Bowtique

So I did it. I went and started a bow business...why not right?! The name is Addie Girl Bowtique. Of course, it's named after my sweet baby daughter. I wouldn't have learned how to make bows or fabric flowers if it weren't for her!

I have so many "business" ideas in my head my it scares me to actually do something about it. I don't know why, I guess I'm afraid it will fail, but in reality, does that even matter? The worst that could happen is that Addie has a ton of bows and all of my friends with girls get bows for Christmas. haha...I'm sure all of my friends are like "yes! please fail!" But thankfully I have a few orders already. Even if these are the only orders I get, I had fun! I like making bows. It's a fun hobby, so why not try and sell 'em?

Please go and "like" my Facebook page, that would mean a lot :)...even if you don't really like it.

And I have an etsy shop: AddieGirlBowtique

Obviously since this little business is just getting started, like right now, I don't have many pictures or product. BUT thankfully I have a whole bunch of ribbon making its way to me via UPS as we speak. Then I'll get to work and post the finished products! As I make more products, I will also post "deals" like 5 (6-inch) bows for $15 or 10 (6-inch) bows for $35, etc.

Well, here goes nothing :)

My little six monther

I can't get enough of this baby. I smother her. I admit, I do. But ya know, she can't talk nor can she walk, so I'll do it while I can!

She can finally sit up by herself! There is a catch...she has to be naked. I think her diaper throws her off. A friend suggested to take off her diaper and see if she can sit, so after bath time the other night, we did! She lasted a few minutes until she face planted. I was probably too busy capturing pictures of this amazing feat to catch her before she hit the floor. She didn't cry. In fact, she loves being on her tummy, so she was probably happy to be there. Every time I lay her on her back, she flips right over to play on her stomach. Oh and she likes to swim. Preferably breaststroke. We haven't tried it in the water yet.

Oh, hey mom.

Seriously mom, stop. I'm naked.

Oh, and really how cute is this bum? Ahh I love it. Every night before I go to bed, I walk into her room and kiss her g'nite. It takes a lot of self control for me not to pick her up and snuggle. Especially since she is such a cute sleeper. I LOVE that she sleeps this way.

Once again, thank you for reading another mom post. I just want to make sure I document these sweet moments so I can look back at them after she has grown!

Wilmy Half

This past weekend I ran my 4th half marathon with six dear friends. This was a "first" for all six friends, which is my favorite. It is always SO FUN to run a half marathon with people who have never ran "that far" before. It is so fun to see their faces as they accomplish a goal they set out months ago. It is so fun to see the how nervous/excited they are the night before and morning of. Every half I have completed, I did so with someone who has never run 13.1 miles.

My first half was a small one in Cary.
My second was in Kiawah, SC.
My third was in Savannah, GA.
My fourth was in Wilmington, NC.

They say "hardcore" runners stay away from the whole conglomerate races, such as the Rock n Roll series. That "hardcore" runners support the local races in the community. I think that is a great idea and love doing that, however, I love to make my races a means of seeing a city I've never seen...through running and with good friends. Whether that be a a big conglomerate race or a local one, I'm not picky. In fact, I have signed up for my second Rock n Roll race in Nashville, April 27.

Anyways, all of us girls (besides one, who was with her new hubby) stayed with Stacey's family, who lives in Wilmington...we love a free place to stay! We got there Saturday afternoon and woke up at 4am Sunday morning to start preparing our bodies for the long run to the finish! AND everyone DID finish!

My next race, as I said before, is in Nashville on April 27th. I signed up for the half marathon...which will be my 5th. Then I started thinking...who the heck runs 5 half marathons without running a full? SO, I'm switching. I'm switching to the full marathon in Nashville. 5 weeks away. Crap. That means I'm running 15 miles this weekend. Shoot. I got this. You can pray. I hope I stick with it and don't chicken out...

All that to say, I love all of you girls who made Wilmington so fun! Congrats on such an accomplishment! If someone asks if you are a runner, you better say, "Yes! I am a runner." Let me know when you are ready for your second race :)

6 months

I can't believe my baby is 6 months. It's so weird holding her next to a newborn...she is SO big. Many people have asked me if it makes me sad to see how fast she is growing. Sometimes, I guess it does. BUT then I think, what would be the point of keeping her a baby forever? We are suppose to grow and develop. Yes, it happens fast, but it's life. It's so fun to watch her develop. Her first "real" smile. Rolling over. Sitting up. Eating solids. Recognizing me. Knowing her name when said. Finding her feet. It is so fun when she learns something new! Addie still does not have a "self soothing" method. Most babies suck their thumb or take a pacifier. She does neither. She spits out a paci and resorts to crying.

She was officially 6 months old on March 8, but on March 11th we went to her 6 month checkup and found out her stats:

Weight: 15.4-- 34% (4 months she was at 35% so she had a healthy weight gain)
Height: 25 1/2 in-- 40% (4 months she was only 11%, so she got really tall!)
Head: 16 3/4-- 53% (4 months she was 24%)

She doesn't quite sit up without support but she is almost there. She "talks" a lot, especially when she "reads." She loves to be tickled and laughs a lot when it happens. She loves bath time and sunshine. She doesn't have teeth yet, but I'm thinking any day now! She rolls, a lot. She rolls up and down her crib and is NEVER in the same spot at the end of her sleep. She loves to smile for the camera.

She had her first solid food at 5 1/2 months. I first gave her baby oatmeal, which she loves. She isn't a huge avocado fan but really likes peas (so far). She didn't like mashed up banana...which I wouldn't either...have you seen the texture of a mushy banana?? Gross.

I really struggle with routine in my life. Once I get in a routine, I get bored and then I want to switch it up. That just reveals lack of discipline in my life, which I am working on :). SO, with that said, the following is a schedule that, for the most part, we follow. The times may not be exact, but close to it!

6:30-7:30: Wakes up/ eats around 5 oz/ play
8:30-9:30: Naps for about 45 min- 1 hour. Every now and then she'll go 2 hours but it's rare for morning nap.
10-10:30- Eat
After morning nap and food, we go to the gym and exercise or go hang out with friends.
1:00: Eat/Nap
3:30-4:00: Wakes/ eat/ play
7:00: solids
7:40: Bath
8:00-8:30: Eats/ bedtime

She is a pretty chill baby until she becomes tired or hungry and then she is really cranky...but let's be honest, that's probably how most of us are anyways.

I hold her maybe 75% of her wake time. I know, that's a lot, but I just love it. I figured I'll do it while she lets me!

Here are a few "firsts" AG experienced during her sixth month of life...

1. First time in the "front seat" of a shopping cart. She has to be strapped in because she falls over :)

2. First time eating solids: oatmeal, avocado, peas, green beans, and bananas (in that order). Likes oatmeal and peas, doesn't like green beans, avocado, or mushy banana. We may have a picky eater on our hands...

3. First time trying on her bikini. Abby got it for her for Christmas, but I couldn't take it any longer before putting it on her.

4. First time freaking out at seeing me with a towel on my head. She has never responded this way before (to seeing a towel on my head), which just shows she is becoming way more aware of her surroundings and to people familiar to her.
5. First time wearing shades

Addie, we love being your mom and dad. You bring such joy to our lives and cannot get enough of you! We pray for you that you will know Jesus, serve Him, and make choices that honor Him. Overall, we just want you to strive to make Jesus famous. It has been so much fun to watch you grow and develop. You have rocked our world these past 6 months and we would have it no other way.
We love you so much!

What's for dinner

BBQ Chicken Pizza

I'm not a huge pizza fan, but I love BBQ chicken pizza. My favorite comes from Lilly's Pizza at 5 Points. They call it Dante's Inferno. Since I can't always go to Lilly's pizza, I can go to the grocery store. Therefore, I set out to make my own version. This is a meal that I created, but don't be impressed. It's super easy and anyone could have thought it up. If you don't have your meal plans figured out for the week, try this out! Add or subtract your own ingredients!

I start out with whole wheat crust. I have tried the whole "roll the dough" yourself, and well, it always ends up in a funny shape and I never get it quite right. So I decided just get but it already made. And I love whole wheat.

You can use a rotisserie chicken (bought from the store) or you can you use chicken on the bone, as I did below. I have used both! Rotisserie chicken makes it super easy and quick! If you use chicken on the bone, boil it in water to cook it, and also make it easy to shred off the bone. Plus you just made your own chicken broth! Bottle it up, stick it in the fridge, and use it for another meal this week!

While your chicken is boiling, go ahead a cut up bell peppers and onions. Of course you can add more veggies, I particularly like these on this pizza. I drizzle olive oil over the veggies, and sprinkle these spices: Greek Seasoning, Garlic Salt, Pepper, Old Bay. Don't be shy when using these spices on the veggies, because this is where a lot of your flavor comes from! Cook the veggies on med high until soft but still a little crunchy.

While your chicken and veggies are cooking, prepare the pizza dough. Spread BBQ sauce (I like KC Masterpiece original) as if you were spreading regular pizza sauce. Once your chicken is done, shred it into pieces and spread on to the pizza. Sprinkle salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, and basil all over chicken.  Next, place veggies all over then top with cheese! Cook on 425 for about 8-10 minutes and dinner is served.

 ***Sometimes I add bacon!!

Grocery List:
- Pizza dough
- Chicken (rotisserie or on the bone)
- Bell peppers and onion
- BBQ sauce
- Olive Oil
- Greek seasoning
- Old Bay
- Garlic Salt
- Pepper
- Salt
- Basil
- Poultry Seasoning
- Mozzarella cheese

This is what we are having for dinner tonight! What are you having??
